The Ambassador’s Residence in Buenos Aires was the first total historic restoration undertaken by the Overseas Buildings Operations of the U.S. Department of State. This work involved the participation of the U.S., France, and Argentina, all working together, which helped to further diplomatic relations among the three countries. U.S. Ambassador to Argentina Robert Woods Bliss hired the leading French architect and interior designer to design the residence, and all of the materials and even the work crew building the residence came from France. Thus, this project involved close collaboration among individuals from all three countries.
