Marcia V. Mayo is the Executive Director of The Fund to Conserve U.S. Diplomatic Treasures Abroad, as well as an advisor to the Cultural Heritage division of the Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. An art historian and appraiser, she curated thematic exhibitions of American art for residences of U.S. ambassadors worldwide through the Art in Embassies program, in addition to writing and editing exhibition publications before assuming her current position. Prior to her 20 years of government service, Ms. Mayo was the director of Sotheby’s Mid-Atlantic office, specializing in American fine and decorative arts and working closely with Sotheby’s Trusts, Estates, and Valuations departments.
An avid preservationist, Ms. Mayo is a Trustee Emeritus of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP), co-chairing the 2008 NTHP National Conference and chairing the 2007 and 2008 NTHP/HGTV fundraising events. She currently serves on the Collections and Executive committees of Tudor Place Historic House and Garden in Washington, D.C., chairing the 2016 bicentennial fundraising event. Ms. Mayo is a member of the Wadsworth-Sulgrave Historic Preservation Foundation’s Operating Committee, and served on the Preservation and Facilities committees of the Washington National Cathedral, where she is a member of the newly formed Dean’s Advisory Committee.
Ms. Mayo is a member of the Gilcrease Museum National Advisory Board and the Washington Winter (Antiques) Show Board of Advisors. She has served on the Board and Executive committees of both the Washington National Opera and the DC Jazz Festival. Her professional affiliations include the Council on Foundations, the American Alliance of Museums, and the Decorative Arts Trust. She holds the rank of Commander in the U.S. Priory of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and is a member of the Priory’s governing board.
